Væddeløberen

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1920

There are lots of fun scenes in this fast-paced little farce about the racing enthusiast Hurtigkarl and his sports-mad dream – to see his favourite runner hitched with his daughter Musse. Since Musse would rather be with hairdresser Svipp, Hurtigkarl has to think on his feet: A race between the two rivals must decide the matter – the winner gets to be with Musse until the end of days. The plan seems impeccable, but there’s something Hurtigkarl hasn’t thought of.

Zigeuneren Raphael

Kay van der Aa Kühle, 1914

A baby’s christening turns into a nightmare when Baron and Baroness von Wilhjelm’s young son is kidnapped by travellers. Mother and son are reunited after 20 years apart, when the band of travellers sets up camp at the very same estate where the Baroness resides. Raphael, as he is now named, has become a handsome young man, whom women swoon over.

Den grimme Ælling

Karl Wieghorst, 1928

Hans Christian Andersen's well-known fairy tale, where the ugliest youngster in the litter ends up as a beautiful swan. Here as a mixture of drawn and photographed film.

Meningen er god nok

Sven Brasch, 1919

A pianist plays for a plump opera singer – or perhaps it is actually a pig?. A young servant enters a gentleman’s room, or perhaps it is in fact a cage full of dangerous animals?
‘How it is – how it feels’ is the subtitle of this brief animated film by Sven Brasch, visualising various pointed metaphors with his sharp, characteristic pen.

Sven Brasch was the most significant and internationally recognised Danish poster artist of the time.

Rivalinder

Viggo Larsen, 1906

A young couple appear to be perfectly happy and in love, but one day the woman discovers that her husband is having an affair. She seeks out his mistress, and the two women agree to resolve their conflict in a duel.

The music is composed and performed by Sigrid Aftret for the educational project 'Sounding Silents' – a collaboration between The Danish Film Institute, the Danish National Academy of Music and Rhythmic Music Conservatory.

Harestegen

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1921

When they are about to be arrested because noise is not tolerated on the streets, a young solicitor helps them out of trouble and subsequently finds them jobs with an elderly laundrywoman. The town’s wealthy men are content with their quiet community and refuse to listen to the solicitor’s proposals for improvements and new initiatives to help everyone make money.

Klarinetspilleren

Robert Storm Petersen, 1920
