The lawyer Magnus Brygge has everything – a good job, two beautiful children and a young, beautiful student who has set her eyes on him. But soon his luck will begin to turn. A sleazy painter with nefarious ulterior motives first turns the head of the professor’s daughter and then of his young bride-to-be, with fatal outcomes and broken relationships as a result.

The artistic cyclist Gaumont, his girlfriend Baptista, and their partner Rosa arrive in town with their travelling circus. Rosa is secretly in love with Gaumont, and to her great delight, she gets the opportunity to travel alone with him when Baptista gets injured and is bedridden. The two of them grow closer in secret, but the clown Pierre, who has set his sights on Baptista, gossips about the lovebirds for his own gain, thus igniting a fatal thirst for revenge in the betrayed.

MOST WANTED | 'The Music-Hall Star' is one of the films for which Carl Th Dreyer wrote the script before he became a director. It is also the only title to feature the combination of Dreyer, who was to become Danish film’s greatest auteur, and Valdemar Psilander, the biggest star of Danish silent film.

When Lucca meets Lt Victor quite by chance, he sweeps her off her feet in a whirlwind romance and the couple are quickly engaged. Unfortunately, the cheerful lieutenant turns out to be a drunkard, so the engagement is called off and Victor leaves for South America. When he returns a few years later, he has become an upstanding pillar of the community.

Marcus Bloomer, a district attorney, receives a divine revelation the night before he is to sentence a young man to death. The herald of the revelation takes the form of Bloomer’s former sweetheart Reine, who shows him the greatest mistake of his life: twenty years ago, Bloomer chose his career over Reine, who birthed a fatherless child. In a cruel twist of fate, the child that Bloomer abandoned turns out to be the very same young man he must now sentence to death.

You can't necessarily use literature to solve a murder. That’s what the avid reader of detective novels, Astrid, will realise when she tries to imitate her novel heroes in a creepy murder mystery. Although her skills as a private detective fall short, she still learns a lot from her attempts.
