WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
The ambitious clerk Frantz Gerner eagerly climbs the career ladder and manages to win both a distinguished position and the boss’s daughter, Ellinor. He does everything in his power to hide his poor origins and humble childhood home, and when his father turns out to be waiting at table at his wedding, he denies all knowledge of the old man, who falls to the ground and dies of heart failure.

The purpose is to pay for his prodigious womanising and gambling. When “Heldet” knocks over his own bank, Hjalmar distracts the guard while the rest of the gang cleans out the vault, then he calls the police to allay any suspicion.
