A cartoon version of HC Andersen’s famous fairy tale about the staunch tin soldier who falls in love with a dancing ballerina, sets out on an adventure, and is finally engulfed by the flames of love.

The film is full of funny scenes with living toys. It was both filmed and directed by Karl Wieghorst, who also produced several cartoons for Robert Storm Petersen, better known as Storm P.

When a travelling circus stops in the village, Magda leaves the meek Knud for the dashing circus rider Rudolf. But circus life with Rudolf quickly turns out to be anything but happy, and Magda comes to a tragic end.
