As King Cyril is away fighting at the front, Prime Minister Bouton holds the reins of power firmly in his stead. For a long time, Bouton has taken to Princess Elena who, on the other hand – and to Bouton’s great displeasure – falls in love with the prisoner of war, Captain Henri de Bersin. The love triangle drama reaches its climax when de Bersin asks the princess for help to escape and is then sentenced to death by Bouton.

But even though Laroque’s first plan to ruin Nessières fails, he does not give up.

On the voyage across the Atlantic, Harvey catches sight of the captain’s beautiful daughter, and the two quickly become good friends. However, a fire breaks out in the ship’s hold, and while the crew struggles to put out the flames, Harvey has to keep the passengers calm with his very best performances, and pray for his and the lives of others.

However, due to time pressure, one of the sculptor’s students has to replace the marble and become a living statue.

The young artist Simon Durand happens to find himself in an idyllic village. Here he finds board and lodging with Marietta, who lives alone with her sick mother, and soon Durand has won the heart of his young hostess. Their happy state is threatened by the wealthy farmer Jerome, who has been courting Marietta in vain for a long time and is not about to abandon his hopes of eventually marrying her.

During a hectic taxi ride, a rich engineer loses his gold-plated lucky cane in the middle of Abel’s postal route. The taxi driver later looks for the cane and finds it in Abel’s hands. The two men enter into a shady agreement to split the finder’s fee.
