FRAGMENT | The Princess of Illyria has spurned every suitor, when a gypsy loitering around the castle catches her eye. In actuality, he is the Prince of Denmark, there with his friend Kasper Røghat. The prince captivates her with magic devices, a noisemaker and a copper kettle, in return for kisses and a night in her bedchamber.

By his father’s deathbed, the young Karl Victor von Sendlingen swears that he will never make the same mistake his father made in his youth: to marry a girl beneath his own station. The promise proves to have fatal consequences when Karl Victor falls in love with a young governess, whom he impregnates but refuses to marry as this would break his oath to his father. Many years later, he is a highly respected president of the court about to deal out judgment to a young woman who has killed her new-born child.

Nordisk Film gennem 30 Aar

Ubekendt, 1937

“30 Years of Nordisk Film” celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of Nordisk Film, featuring clips of the company’s major films from its first three decades. The first part consists of reportage films depicting important historical events such as the inauguration of King Frederik VIII in 1906 and Ellehammer’s first flight that same year. The rest of the film is a cavalcade of the greatest moments in Danish silent film history featuring the biggest stars of the time.

Elverhøj

The film is the second 1910 film adaptation of Heiberg’s classic about foundling children, superstitions and star-crossed lovers.

Near Elves’ Hill (Elverhøjen) lives Karen, a superstitious farmer’s wife, with her daughter Agnete. Agnete and the noble Sir Ebbesen are very much in love, but to their great sorrow Ebbesen is betrothed to the noble-born Elisabeth Munk.

A scientist has invented a serum that transforms the old into young and the old into new. His first subject – a very old man – gets a single injection and gradually turns into a baby. Meanwhile, three little men have stolen the syringe with the rejuvenation treatment, which they now give to men and livestock in dire need of it.

FRAGMENT | Lejla, a frivolous dressage rider, rides around with suitors and dances with death. Count Claes turns a deaf ear to all the warnings about Lejla’s behaviour. Claes only has eyes for Lejla’s beauty, but is blind to her rejections.
