Director Saxild and his wife naively believe that their son Gunnar is a model of virtue. Their shock is great when one evening the director finds Gunnar in the company of loose-living women. Without delay, Gunnar is assigned a job in his father's company, where he meets Tove – a good and respectable woman with whom he soon falls in love. But the path of virtue is narrow, and before long Gunnar strays into deep waters. His family casts him out, and only Tove can now save him from ruin.
