Hævnens Nat

Benjamin Christensen, 1916

On New Year's Eve, the convicted murderer, Strong John (‘Henry’ in the original Danish), escapes from prison and collects his son from the orphanage. When he breaks into a local manor to get some milk for his child, he is surprised by a young woman, Ann (‘Eva’ in the original Danish). Out of pity, she decides to help the stranger, but unfortunately some of the manor's other occupants wake up and call the police.

Pavillonens Hemmelighed

Karl Mantzius, 1916

On his way home from a business trip, the young detective Karl Frank meets the siblings Kuno and Margit von Krall. Immediately captivated by Margit’s beauty, Frank accepts an invitation to visit them at their hotel soon. That same evening, he is hired for an important mission: he must prevent a burglary at the city’s jeweller.

Lykkens Blændværk

Emanuel Gregers, 1919

Poul and Alva have been married for a few years when dark clouds begin to gather over their marriage. The dream of having a child doesn’t come true, and the couple drifts further and further apart. Alva escapes into her great passion – music, while Poul becomes embittered by the injustice of fate.

Grev Dahlborgs Hemmelighed

Eduard Schnedler-Sørensen, 1914

FRAGMENT | These recordings were part of Valdemar Psilander’s live performance at the Royal Orfeum in Budapest, in February and March 1914. Psilander financed the show himself, and it was a mixture of film and theatre under the title Count Dahlborg’s Secret. The film footage, which unfortunately hasn’t been preserved in its entirety, opened the performance, after which Psilander himself rode onto the stage and continued the action.
