Gorki

Ubekendt, 1912

Hjalmar leads a double life; during the day, he is a clerk at his father’s bank while at night, he leads a notorious gang known as “Heldet” (Fortune). The purpose is to pay for his prodigious womanising and gambling. When “Heldet” knocks over his own bank, Hjalmar distracts the guard while the rest of the gang cleans out the vault, then he calls the police to allay any suspicion.

A Savoyard peasant family is banished from their home because they have not paid their taxes on time. When the count sees the family’s beautiful daughter Annette, he immediately suggests that they can stay if Annette comes to the estate as a housemaid. Plainly seeing the count’s disgraceful plans for what they are, the father, Antonio, resolutely rejects the offer.

Having grown up in poverty, the ambitious Nana is determined to break out of it. She becomes part of the Paris theatre scene and gets involved with several of the men who court her. However, Nana’s impoverished past catches up with her, and the story comes to a tragic end.

A Danish journeyman carpenter, Søren Hvid, and his friend Christian are travelling through Germany as part of their journeyman years, known as being ‘on the Walz’. They are accepted into the brotherhood of journeymen with the usual rituals prescribed for such events, meet fellow craftsmen on their travels and find work in a lumber yard. Their bindles, distinctive twisted canes and ‘travelling books’ remain with them all the way.

The long arm of the law is utterly powerless against the unusually cunning criminal Terry and his gang. Master detective Sherlock Holmes is on the case, but he might need some assistance. Pat and Patachon, who deals magazines in a small kiosk, get involved in the case by accident and ironically solves it by accident as well.
