A dutiful maid is not always a blessing! That’s what a newly wed couple finds out after they return home tired and want to be left alone. Their old maid Ane has been told by the bride’s mother to give her a cup of tea before she goes to bed. The bride and groom protest, grumble and cry, but Ane won’t stop until she has done as she has been ordered!

‘A Wedding Night’ is a film adaptation of ‘Et Lystspil i en Akt’ by Peter Nansen, which was first published in the magazine ‘Af Dagens Krønike’ in October 1889.

As the four friends grow up to become young adults, their master dies, and they begin to perform to an enthusiastic audience as The Four Devils.

While he was treating his patient, a fire has broken out in his home, and upon his return the sight of the flames consuming the flower-covered coffin still laid out in the living room takes a heavy toll on his psyche.

Goethe’s Faust myth makes an appearance in this drama about a dispute between two scientists. When Doctor Voluntas discovers that his rival, the virtuous Doctor Felix, is about to overtake him in the preparation of a serum for cancer, he decides to lure the good doctor into corruption. An innocent woman, Margaret, is reeled in as a decoy and it works! Doctor Felix soon forgets both about his work and himself, while the devil stands ready to take possession of his soul.

During ceasefire, young lieutenant Brenner gets permission to visit his old father. On his way he rescues an enemy officer from a mean ambush – a favour that will later save his life.

When Lucca meets Lt Victor quite by chance, he sweeps her off her feet in a whirlwind romance and the couple are quickly engaged. Unfortunately, the cheerful lieutenant turns out to be a drunkard, so the engagement is called off and Victor leaves for South America. When he returns a few years later, he has become an upstanding pillar of the community.

Afgrunden

Urban Gad, 1910

Magda, a piano teacher, meets Knud, a parson’s son, who invites her to spend the summer at his parents’ parsonage. When a travelling circus stops in the village, Magda leaves the meek Knud for the dashing circus rider Rudolf. But circus life with Rudolf quickly turns out to be anything but happy, and Magda comes to a tragic end.
