A lazy sculptor squanders his advance and has to think outside the box to meet his deadline. At short notice, the sculptor has received the task of carving a copy of the famous statue “The Swimmer”. However, due to time pressure, one of the sculptor’s students has to replace the marble and become a living statue.

Young engineer Jameson quickly demonstrates his worth at his new workplace. Chief engineer Hooper is more interested in drinking whisky and chasing women than in making accurate calculations for the construction plans. Jameson quickly corrects this sloppiness, and his enthusiasm impresses both the foreman’s daughter Kitty and the manager, who promotes Jameson to chief engineer.

Soon after, Inga’s uncle from America announces his arrival, and she persuades Pingel to pretend to be Peter, whom the uncle has been looking forward to meeting.

Just as the young couple’s fortunes are on the up, the bride-to-be disappears without a trace, and Egil is plagued by doubt: Was Rigi his true love, or was he just blinded by her beautiful yet mysterious maiden eyes?

The main role of Egil is played by Norwegian Gunnar Tolnæs, who was Nordisk Film’s biggest star after Valdemar Psilander left the company.
