Kærligheds-Øen

A.W. Sandberg, 1924

Shipowner Holm’s young wife Grete has a head full of romantic ideas. Holm is particularly irritated by her interest in the poet Lorens Bøllemose, who has almost moved in with the couple. With the help of a friend, he plots a shipwreck during an excursion on the Øresund.

En Nat i København

Eduard Schnedler-Sørensen, 1923

Two lively and famous Petersens, namely Robert Storm and Hans W, play prominent roles in this little comedy about a morally vigilant pharmacist, his somewhat more cheerful son, his crush on the pharmacy’s new cashier, Miss Hansen, and the equally enthusiastic two Petersens.

Kys, Klap og Kommers

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1929

The long arm of the law is utterly powerless against the unusually cunning criminal Terry and his gang. Master detective Sherlock Holmes is on the case, but he might need some assistance. Pat and Patachon, who deals magazines in a small kiosk, get involved in the case by accident and ironically solves it by accident as well.

Han og Hun og Hamlet

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1922

In a boarding house where young girls are kept under strict surveillance, only two persons of the male persuasion are allowed to enter. The gardeners Pat and Patachon are popular among the girls because they can play the accordion and sing songs, both cheerful and sad. One of the girls has attracted Pat and Patachon’s particular admiration: Eve, who dreams of becoming an actress.

Kraft og Skønhed

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1928

Although the twins Flora and Dora attend the School of Sculpture, their real calling lies in gymnastics. They decide to open an “Institute of Strength and Beauty”, which does not go down well with Uncle Brown, who finances their numerous business adventures. When he announces his arrival in town and demands to see the results from the School of Sculpture, they find themselves in a predicament.

Meningen er god nok

Sven Brasch, 1919

A pianist plays for a plump opera singer – or perhaps it is actually a pig?. A young servant enters a gentleman’s room, or perhaps it is in fact a cage full of dangerous animals?
‘How it is – how it feels’ is the subtitle of this brief animated film by Sven Brasch, visualising various pointed metaphors with his sharp, characteristic pen.

Sven Brasch was the most significant and internationally recognised Danish poster artist of the time.

Film, Flirt og Forlovelse

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1921

On a magnificent estate on the coast of Scania live a landowner, his wife, their daughter and a temporary lodger, baron. The lord and lady of the house eagerly try to bring the baron into the family as their son-in-law, but neither the baron nor their daughter, Eva, seem particularly interested. Eva is a bit of a wildcat who spends her days roaming the countryside and play fighting with her male friends, while the baron yearns for the urban sophistication of the city life from which he came.

Rovedderkoppen

August Blom, 1916

FRAGMENT | The titular villain is an infamous international criminal, Mrs Valentin Kempel, known as “The Predator Spider” due to her habit of ensnaring innocent victims in her web. Men are enchanted by her, and she uses this to coerce them into taking part in her criminal activities. When one of her victims takes his own life, the victim’s brother and a detective decide to put an end to the beautiful criminal’s reign of terror.

Tarantellen af Napoli

Peter Elfelt, 1903

‘Napoli’ (1842), ballet by August Bournonville (1805-1879), soloist, head of the royal ballet, and choreographer. Performed by Hans Beck (1861-1952), soloist and head of the royal ballet, and Valborg Guldbrandsen (later: Borchsenius), soloist (1872-1949). The scenes were performed in Elfelt’s studio, due to the lighting requirements, which then gave rise to a problem of lack of space.

Præsten i Vejlby

August Blom, 1922

The film is the first film adaptation of Steen Steensen Blicher’s short story about a real-life miscarriage of justice from the seventeenth century.

The God-fearing vicar Niels Quist lives with his beloved daughter Mette in the small Jutland town of Vejlby. The newly elected county bailiff and local magistrate, Erik Sørensen, is the lucky fellow who wins Mette’s heart, but their happiness is short-lived: One day, the vicar’s farmhand mysteriously disappears, and all signs suggest that the vicar is the killer.

Gud raader

Ubekendt, 1912

A Savoyard peasant family is banished from their home because they have not paid their taxes on time. When the count sees the family’s beautiful daughter Annette, he immediately suggests that they can stay if Annette comes to the estate as a housemaid. Plainly seeing the count’s disgraceful plans for what they are, the father, Antonio, resolutely rejects the offer.

Livjægerne paa Amager

Peter Elfelt, 1906
