Daarskab, Dyd og Driverter

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1923

Summer has arrived, and people are fleeing the sun-scorched, stony streets of the city. Pat and Patachon also leave the stifling streets behind to spend the summer in the countryside. Armed with a homemade camera, they hope to earn a living by taking photographs, though their efforts are not particularly successful.

Lille Lise Letpaataa

Lau Lauritzen Sr., 1924

Old Lund is determined to make his granddaughter Lise/Liz a great dancer. He teaches dance classes in their attic home, accompanied by their neighbours, Pat and Patachon, playing the flute and violin. Joy fills the household when Lise secures an engagement at the Grand Theatre, but acquiring the expensive costumes she needs becomes a financial burden.

En Fare for Samfundet

Robert Dinesen, 1918

Alice, the seventeen-year-old daughter of millionaire John Payne, is dying. Doctor Sheldon, deep in grief due to the very recent loss of his wife, reluctantly agrees to help and saves Alice’s life at the very last minute. While he was treating his patient, a fire has broken out in his home, and upon his return the sight of the flames consuming the flower-covered coffin still laid out in the living room takes a heavy toll on his psyche.

Bag Filmens Kulisser

Olaf Fønss, 1923

When Clara sees an ad announcing that the tabloid newspaper B.T. is looking for a young, beautiful woman to play a part in their upcoming amateur film, she does not hesitate.

Scenens Børn

Bjørn Bjørnson, 1913

MOST WANTED | The film features the actor and later film director Bodil Ipsen in her first film role. It also features Benjamin Christensen, who in 1913 was on the verge of making a name for himself as a multi-faceted talent in the film industry, and the Norwegian actor Aud Egede-Nissen, who later enjoyed an illustrious career in Germany with her own production company.

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A ménage à trois in the theatre: the young, celebrated actress Leonie is happily married to her much older colleague Walther.

Skæbnesvangre Vildfarelser

Fritz Magnussen, 1918

MOST WANTED | The film is a graduation piece shot in 1918 upon completing a course at the first Danish film school. The cast includes teachers and students from the school. What did a graduation film look like in 1918? Were students required to demonstrate their mastery of specific cinematic techniques and devices? We are incredibly curious to see more!

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
The film is set around a bar known as ‘Røde Mølle’ (‘The Red Mill’/’Moulin Rouge’), where a passionate love drama has deadly consequences.

Madsalune

Emanuel Gregers, 1923

In Horsens, the exiled Russian princess Elisabeth Antonovna is imprisoned. Though her existence is a sad one, two things in particular can cheer the princess up: stories about the cunning smuggler Madsalune, and flirting with her humble suitor, Lieutenant Johan Gordon. One fine day, the two joys merge into one, when it transpires that the lieutenant is in fact the smuggler Madsalune in disguise! The princess’ fortune is decided, or at least it almost is because the two lovers first have to smuggle the princess through thick walls and past an army of jailers.

Den sidste Dans

A.W. Sandberg, 1923

Count Wrangel’s daughter Polly and the forest warden’s son Søren are best friends and quite inseparable. As they mature beyond the carefree days of childhood, their disparity in rank and status looms larger between them, and Søren puts aside his dreams of sharing the rest of his life with Polly. Instead, he meets a dancer, Stella, who moves with him when he himself is employed as a forest warden at Wrangelsborg, the count’s estate.

Blade af Satans Bog

Carl Th. Dreyer, 1921

'Leaves from Satan’s Book' is divided into four episodes set in four different historical eras. In each episode we follow Satan, who has been cursed by God and is doomed to tempt man. He will be redeemed only if he is resisted.
