Klør Dame

Ubekendt, 1918

‘Go to Bessie immediately; you will be safe there,’ reads the farewell letter that Sonja finds in her father’s home after it has been robbed. Prominent inventor Lucius Lindner has taken his own life to escape ‘The Black Ravens’, a gang of which he was once a member himself. He leaves Sonja the secret formula for his excelsior rays, an invention which the criminal gang is eager to get their hands on.

Elverhøj (1828; literal translation, Elves’ Hill) by Johan Ludvig Heiberg, with music by Frederik Kuhlau, is considered the Danish national play. It was commissioned by King Frederik VI for the marriage of his youngest daughter Vilhelmine Marie to Frederik Carl Christian (later King Frederik VII).

A Danish journeyman carpenter, Søren Hvid, and his friend Christian are travelling through Germany as part of their journeyman years, known as being ‘on the Walz’. They are accepted into the brotherhood of journeymen with the usual rituals prescribed for such events, meet fellow craftsmen on their travels and find work in a lumber yard. Their bindles, distinctive twisted canes and ‘travelling books’ remain with them all the way.

A young hunter, Leo, gets involved in a feud between a sleazy secretary and the kind-hearted Jennae. The secretary desperately tries to charm Jennae with an expensive piece of jewelry. However, Jennae simply donates it to her cousin before he leaves.

A boy from a poor family grows up to become a successful scientist. The demanding work costs him the love of his life which he bitterly regrets, lying on his deathbed.

The film was found on four reels in a collection from the local history archive in Aalborg.

Marie, the daughter of a pastor, and major Trolle are young and in love, and they seem destined to become engaged. Everything is coming up roses when a serpent enters this Paradise. Trolle’s close friend, Hoffmann, begins making passes at Marie, and even in the face of consistent rejections he remains tireless in his pursuit.

He has never forgotten a mysterious woman whom he sheltered many years ago. With the help of a woman named Eva, Wilbur’s mother manages to find the mystery woman, but she turns out to be a most unsuitable candidate for becoming her daughter-in-law.

Dr. Nicholson og den blaa Diamant

Ubekendt, 1913

Mysterious, hookah-smoking Doctor Nicholson will stop at nothing to get his hands on the valuable “blue diamond.” A rich man’s daughter, a poor French count, a marriage of convenience, bomb threats and explosions, kidnapping and cocaine are just a few of the ingredients in Nicholson’s dogged struggle to obtain the precious diamond.

The young Englishman Cecil Brown lives and works on a tea plantation in India. When he is about to set off to London on leave, his Indian girlfriend Profula wants to go with him. He refuses even though she begs him.

Young engineer Jameson quickly demonstrates his worth at his new workplace. Chief engineer Hooper is more interested in drinking whisky and chasing women than in making accurate calculations for the construction plans. Jameson quickly corrects this sloppiness, and his enthusiasm impresses both the foreman’s daughter Kitty and the manager, who promotes Jameson to chief engineer.

A young woman, Nina, works as a singer at a Copenhagen variety theatre, but when her contract expires she suddenly finds herself with no income to support her and her old mother. Upon seeing a newspaper advertisement looking for singers for a theatre in St. Petersburg, Nina jumps at the chance – and a few weeks later she is on her way.
