Store forventninger

A charitable childhood deed holds fateful consequences for poor Pip. An anonymous benefactor paves the way for Pip’s transformation and subsequent social ascent from peasant boy to gentleman. But he soon finds out that life among the upper-classes is no bed of roses, and Pip encounters a number of characters who shape his life for the better, and for the worse.

Lille Dorrit

Amy Dorrit – nicknamed Little Dorrit – was born in Marshalsea debtors prison, where her father has been incarcerated for a minor debt for the last 23 years. She lives with him in the prison at night, while going out to work as a seamstress during the day, for the unpleasant Mrs. Clennam.

David Copperfield

After ten happy childhood years, the life of David Copperfield takes an obscure turn. His mother passes away and a cruel stepfather crushes young Copperfield’s dreams and sends him to work in London. From here, the poor soul must fend for himself.

Stella, a circus princess, has two suitors: young, handsome Count Waldberg and the greying, hidebound jeweller Hirsch. Stella’s love for Waldberg drives Hirsch mad with jealousy. He will stop at nothing to be near the woman of his dreams.

Solo from ’La sylphide’ (1836), ballet by August Bournonville. Performed by Ellen Price (1878-1968), soloist from 1903. Ellen Price’s dancing in Hans Beck’s ballet ‘The Little Mermaid’ (1909) was the inspiration for Edvard Eriksen’s statue of the same name (1911).

Professor Bjørn has spent years and months developing a serum against cancer. When he finally succeeds, he pays for it with his life – the professor’s assistant Jakobsen kills Bjørn to get hold of the valuable formula. The hunt then moves onto the professor’s daughter Rosa, who is the only one left who knows how to develop the serum.

INCOMPLETE | Anna, the beautiful daughter of a general, and the young lieutenant Cernieff are in love. However, the general refuses to give his only daughter to a man without fortune. Heartbroken, Anna confides in the duchess, who agrees to deliver a letter to Cernieff.

When a dying patient gives him a statue of an Indian god, the doctor John Schmidt thinks nothing of it. He barely gets home before mysterious things start happening. A knight’s armour comes to life, a servant gets ambushed, and Schmidt’s wife disappears without a trace! The secret Indian society is behind it and will do everything to get hold of the statue.

When Prince Otto is involved in a hunting accident, the game warden’s daughter Ellen becomes his nurse. She falls head over heels in love with him and the infatuation is mutual. But when the prince’s father, the ruler, dies, it turns out that the prince’s heart is bequeathed to someone else.
