A young artist, Wilbur, has lost his eyesight in the war, and there is only a very faint hope of him ever being able to see again. He has never forgotten a mysterious woman whom he sheltered many years ago. With the help of a woman named Eva, Wilbur’s mother manages to find the mystery woman, but she turns out to be a most unsuitable candidate for becoming her daughter-in-law.

Innocent Mary has barely arrived in the big city when she falls prey to the looming dangers of the city. First, she ends up in the home of a common thief. Then she gets a job in a circus and is caught in a dangerous game between a womanising lion-tamer and his jealous wife.

MOST WANTED | The film features the actor and later film director Bodil Ipsen in her first film role. It also features Benjamin Christensen, who in 1913 was on the verge of making a name for himself as a multi-faceted talent in the film industry, and the Norwegian actor Aud Egede-Nissen, who later enjoyed an illustrious career in Germany with her own production company.

Not long before marine officer van Hauen goes off to war and heavy-heartedly leaves his family, he coincidentally discovers that his wife has a secret liaison with the dubious Count Spinelli. What the van Hauens do not yet know, is that the sleazy Spinelli has a hidden agenda.

The film has English subtitles and music by Neil Brand.

Civil war and famine are raging in Siberia. A backward, poor peasant encounters the noble Russian Tatjana and, under torture, saves her life. When Sergei later looks up Tatjana to reap the rewards of his heroic deed in the form of friendship, he’s left sorely disappointed.

On New Year's Eve, the convicted murderer, Strong John (‘Henry’ in the original Danish), escapes from prison and collects his son from the orphanage. When he breaks into a local manor to get some milk for his child, he is surprised by a young woman, Ann (‘Eva’ in the original Danish). Out of pity, she decides to help the stranger, but unfortunately some of the manor's other occupants wake up and call the police.

Elverhøj (1828; literal translation, Elves’ Hill) by Johan Ludvig Heiberg, with music by Frederik Kuhlau, is considered the Danish national play. It was commissioned by King Frederik VI for the marriage of his youngest daughter Vilhelmine Marie to Frederik Carl Christian (later King Frederik VII).

A Danish journeyman carpenter, Søren Hvid, and his friend Christian are travelling through Germany as part of their journeyman years, known as being ‘on the Walz’. They are accepted into the brotherhood of journeymen with the usual rituals prescribed for such events, meet fellow craftsmen on their travels and find work in a lumber yard. Their bindles, distinctive twisted canes and ‘travelling books’ remain with them all the way.

A boy from a poor family grows up to become a successful scientist. The demanding work costs him the love of his life which he bitterly regrets, lying on his deathbed.

The film was found on four reels in a collection from the local history archive in Aalborg.

‘Go to Bessie immediately; you will be safe there,’ reads the farewell letter that Sonja finds in her father’s home after it has been robbed. Prominent inventor Lucius Lindner has taken his own life to escape ‘The Black Ravens’, a gang of which he was once a member himself. He leaves Sonja the secret formula for his excelsior rays, an invention which the criminal gang is eager to get their hands on.

Marie, the daughter of a pastor, and major Trolle are young and in love, and they seem destined to become engaged. Everything is coming up roses when a serpent enters this Paradise. Trolle’s close friend, Hoffmann, begins making passes at Marie, and even in the face of consistent rejections he remains tireless in his pursuit.
